James Hardie – Modeshift STARS Project Officer

James works for PWLC Projects as the Modeshift STARS Project Officer for the national Living Streets Walk To project. For the previous five and a half years, James worked for Luton Borough Council as their School Sustainable Travel Advisor. He has also previously worked for Sustrans as an Active Travel Manager.

At Luton Borough Council, James was responsible for a number of projects including implementing Modeshift STARS, designing and rolling out a scooter training programme for Key Stage 1 pupils that has delivered training to just short of 5,000 pupils and working on the Bikes for Schools project which enables participation in Bikeability in a town with very low bike ownership.

As a qualified Bicycle Mechanic and Bikeability National Standards Instructor Trainer, James has a broad base of practical experience as well as software training and support. He is currently developing and delivering practical training to local authority officers, Living Streets Coordinators and schools on the successful implementation of the Modeshift STARS scheme.
